Our Mission
“We realize that technology, by itself, cannot solve all our problems. Yet we also realize that technology is what makes solving our problems possible.”
Demitri Balabanov
Project Satellite
IFGI provides two satellite broadband connections to the internet for school children and their families in a rural township outside Johannesburg. These connections to the internet enable students to access online learning modules and enable families to connect with resources available to them.
The satellite dishes are 2.5 feet round, are installed on the roof of a dwelling on a rural farm, and connected to a modem with cables. We contract with Multisat, a local Johannesburg company, who installs and services the satellites to provide internet access for the families. The 2022 cost for 1 satellite is $444/year, or $37/month.

Project Hanyani
Many rurally situated villages in South Africa struggle to serve the educational needs of students. IFGI learned that high school students at Hanyani Combined High School in Tshipise, South Africa were unable to take advanced courses in math and science because they did not have scientific calculators. In 2023, Inventions for Good, Inc donated resources to the school so that every enrolled student can have this tool to pursue upper level science and math. We are happy to be able to help students in such an isolated community.
The University of Johannesburg has developed a project designed to help this northern South African region, and has installed solar panels in the Matatani village, where most of the pupils hail from, and in partnership with the South African Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD), the school received a learning center with 6 computers and a library. The school does not have sports facilities.
We hope to continue to partner with the University of Johannesburg to provide Hanyani Combined School students with the tools they need to create meaningful, sustainable, self-directed lives.
